This necklace features a feather completely encased in recycled copper.

We hung it on a 32 inch deerskin cord.

The feathers come from a pair of Eurasian Collared Doves that nest in our back yard. I find them on the ground around the bird feeder. They are totally legal to use.
🕊
Did you know? The Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) was passed in 1918 to combat over-hunting and poaching that supplied the enormous demand for feathers to adorn women's hats.
🕊
The act made it a federal crime to kill protected birds or possess/sell their feathers. It protects over 1000 native migratory birds, including the American Crow, Seagulls and 74 rare birds also on the endangered species list.
It does not protect birds that are classified as invasive, such as our friends the Eurasian Ring Necked Dove. So it is completely legal to collect their feathers.
🕊
Wikipedia says that a group of these doves were brought to the Bahamas in the 70’s and after they escaped captivity, made their way to Florida and are now in almost every state in the U.S. as well as in Mexico.

Electroforming is a process where we essentially take copper from a sacrificial anode and deposit it onto our organic material using an electrical current. There is a real feather in this pendant.

This item comes in a Kraft gift box for safe shipping or thoughtful gift giving.

Due to the organic shapes in nature, each pendant is different. All of our items are almost completely handmade and look slightly different. Any imperfections are not to be seen as defects, but unique qualities of using natural leaves, recycled or reclaimed metals and buying handmade.

Keep jewelry in a safe place like a jewelry box or on a shelf when not wearing it. Do not throw it in a drawer or purse, as that can cause jewelry to break or become tangled.  Jewelry can be fragile. Please treat it with care.
