This collection was made by encasing real bugs and skulls along with plants in recycled copper. To do that we used a process called electroforming.
Each pendant is hung on 18 inch copper orbital chain with handmade infinity clasps and our signature triangle dangle.
The mini wall hangings are hung on a short piece of Deerskin lace.
We can customize any chain length, just send us an email.
Electroforming is a process where we take copper from a sacrificial anode and deposit it onto our organic material using an electrical current. There really is a bug in each one of these necklaces.
Some of these mini wall hangings feature rodent skulls we found in owl pellets.
What is an Owl Pellet, you ask?
Because owls often swallow mice, voles, small birds, and other prey whole, their digestive system has to deal with bones, fur, and feathers. The owl’s gizzard performs a kind of sorting operation: Soft tissues pass through to be digested, while indigestible sharp and hazardous bits like bones, teeth, and fur are formed into an oval mass. They pass back up the digestive system and are regurgitated as a pellet some hours later, often while the owl is at roost. Read more about pellets from Audubon here.
We find Owl pellets under a tree in our neighborhood, where a barn owl roosts. Dissecting the Owl pellets is easy, and there are often some really cool skulls inside.
